In 2002 a new stage to give young and upcoming talent a break came to America. Its a show called America idol. Season one was very raw and in actuality there were only a few talents that were actually very good. Through out the years I have watched and watched and though I still watch I seem to find that this show has become to commericalized and frankly not as good. In the early seasons the the "talent" may not have been as good as far as some people are concerned. I believe that the people that tried were at least true musicians as opposed to today where I think I lot of them just simply try out because they can possibly carry a tune and have nothing better to do with their lives at the moment.
Thought I think that in the end 'America does get it right and we do have an the best out of the lot that becomes the American idol, whether they are my favorite or not. But even with that, it has become less. Think back to our first American idol. When Kelly Clarkson was crowned queen for a night they people went insane. And rightfully so that was back in 2002 and not only has she continued to have success after success in as many different genres of music as there is out there, the girl can blow. My GOD the girl can blow. And there is a true passion for what she does you can obviously tell that.
I think the biggest measure of how good the seasons are in compared to each other the week by week performaces. Honestly, though I'm a fan, the first week of live performances this week were really kind of boring vocally. Sure the contestants have come up with unique and exciting arrangements with the Ricky Minor band (Who I think is awesome by the way) but when it comes down to it, there just not as much passion and goodness in the vocals. It's all caught up in the hype. In the olden days, the contestants knew how to keep the crowd excited and win votes without sacrificing vocal intigirity, in other words with out sounding bad
In the golden age of American idol the talent was raw and underdeveoped, but it was still talent. Pure good talent. Honestly, some contestants think that they can play America for idiots. Using vocal tricks and trying to manipulate the vote with different musical bluffs in order to win the vote. Personally I feel quite insulted.
One thing that is refreshing, is the youth on the show. There are the ones to look out for because I do believe another young one is going to take the crown once again. It the young one in this season's compition that have still have that raw talent. the pure talent. Oh the wide eyed innocences of children. I hope they can keep hope alive.
I will probably never stop watching it but hopefully some group of people will com along and rekindle that spark that has lost in America's contest. We can only hope
The original, one of the best!

I agree that American Idol has lost it sparked. I'm amazed at how tame Simon Cowell is this season. He use to give brutal but raw criticism which made me appreciate him and the show because face it not everybody can sing and sometimes you just need the honest truth to set you free lol. His truth and advice actually helped previous contestants and we watched them grow through the season. But so far through this season Simon has spent to much time softening his comments and trying to reassure the singers. I was also really excited that Ellen Degeneres was going to be a judge on the show because i love watching her talk show just for her hilarious sense of humor. I was really disappointed in her when i watched the show and saw none of her humor come out into the show. Even though she toke Paula's chair as judge she really didn't need to be exactly like her thinking everyone is a great singer and has so much potential.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, Steve Lillywhite has said he'd like to get involved. He's more of a rocker than Simon so it could be interesting.
ReplyDeleteWell Y'all I can't say that I'm sorry to say that this week I can eat my words, yesterday the top ten boys performed and that rawness in the vocals that I spoke of from the earlier seasons is back, at least in a few of the contestants. I'm glad to see this because honestly I felt that my show was becoming too commericalized to the point that it was simply unreal. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the season now. As for simon, he just got engaged so he's just really happy right now. When it comes down to it I think that he will get back to his old self
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree! Sadly, I don't think the show is putting the right people through. I also think that you should have to be 18 to try out because every time they put a 16 year old through now a days they say that they aren't mature enough or that their voices just aren't ready. Also, I LOVE Ellen Degeneres, but I don't like how she acts on the show. I wish she would put in some more of her comedy!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. American Idol used to have contestants that were great singers, but that is not the case anymore. Also, I think it is not as popular anymore because Paula is not on the show anymore.
ReplyDeleteby the way, do you know what we have to read for tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteAmerican Idol used to be what i looked forward to every tuesday and thursday when it first came out. Now i believe it's just been over done..people are getting tired of it because lets face it this is America and we Americans love new things. American idol is old. plus the talent isn't as great anymore. I stopped watching it but my parents are dedicated American Idol watchers so i kind of hear about it. Maybe it will get better....probably not :/
